I photographed the semi-finals and finals; the finals took place in the Royal Courts of Justice, a very impressive building in Central London. It looks a lot like a church, all gothic-styled, high ceilings, narrow staircases and spectacular arches.
Now unlike the US, UK court restrictions preclude the use of either still or video cameras when covering cases so this was a rare opportunity to get some legal drama on 'film' (of course, all my work is done digitally).
The cases were all commercial rather than criminal – there wasn't a jury or a defendant actually in the courtroom, so I positioned myself fairly close to the judges giving me a clear view of the competitors.
The lighting in the courtroom was fairly poor, and flash photography would have been intrusive, but I captured the youngsters at work, as well as photographing my first Lord; Lord Steyn, a well-known figure in legal circles.
